Foundation Stone for Major Tractor Assembly Plant Laid in Mojo – Ethiopian Monitor

ADDIS ABABA – Officials of Ethio Engineering Group and YTO China-Africa Machinery Corp on Monday laid the foundation stone for a 10000-a-year tractor capacity assembly plant in Mojo Town.

This comes days after the EEG entered into an agreement with China’s premier producer of agricultural equipment to build the assembly plant and forge a partnership in knowledge and technology transfer in tractor and farm machinery production.

According to the Ethio Engineering or EEG, the construction of the factory is scheduled to be complete at the end of the 2015 Ethiopian calendar.

It will be one of the biggest plants in Africa with a capacity to assemble 10,000 tractors per annum, it said.

Chief executive officer of EEG, Misganu Arga said building a new plant has become essential due to the limited capacity of its oldest tractor assembly line in Adama.

The Chinese company will carry out the construction of the plant, which will also supply tractors for the African market.

YTO International Director, Liu Pi said the Chinese company would finish the construction project in a short period of time, in order to support Ethiopia’s push to modernize its agricultural sector in time.

Areas of cooperation between the two companies include improving the existing production capacity of EEG, supplying and installing assembly line technologies, cooperating in after-sale services, exporting products, training, consolidating the existing market share, and expanding EEG’s products and services to neighboring countries.

The two sides also plan to work jointly in the areas of making electric and solar tractors technologies, self-drive tractors, other products, and equipment, as per Ethio Engineering.
